AUDIO LINGUAL TECHNIQUE

Based on video that I have seen, it’s about audio lingual technique, and it has presented by Diane Larsen-Freeman. This video was uploaded in 2013, exactly on 25 January 2013 in USA, I get a lot of information about audio lingual technique. Such as, what is Audio lingual, what are assumptions that come out from audio lingual technique, what are audio lingual characteristic, what is the first purpose from audio lingual technique, and what are the power and the weakness from audio lingual technique.
Audio lingual technique is a method that use much practice and exercise in spoken way. In this technique the students are expected to be able to speak like the owner of that language. Actually this technique is developing from direct method which has weakness in explaining difficult materials to the students.
In Audio lingual technique, we have three assumption, first, language is sound that we produce and we use it in our life, by this statement, so Listening is the first side that we use to get language, and every language owner will speak in their own style.
And then, Audio lingual technique has four purposes, for instance, the students are be able to understand foreign language in medium speed, the students are able to speak in real life condition, the students does not get the difficulties in reading the text, the students are able to write in correct way.
Therefore, we move to the power and the weakness from this technique. It can be applying in medium class level, it will be balance for students’ linguistic, audio lingual is combine between linguistic and psychology, it make us easier to access the foreign language.
However, everything has weakness also, like, it needs a professional teacher, drill sometimes make students fell bore, it needs long time to make it perfect, and the last one is, the teacher dominate than their students. Furthermore, in this video, I could not find the information about level, my question is, “Can I use this technique for junior high school or elementary school ? “, it will be confusing in teaching, due to she does not deliver particularly, instead, focus in basic only. Fortunately as a teacher to be, we should be able to filter everything which related to teaching circumstance.
